Sale Price 1937 Hamilton Harris

To get an idea of the market value of Hamilton vintage wristwatches, this Harris sold in 2013,  for $63.13 at auction on eBay. The one below has a price of $450, now that the concept of supply and demand has finally emerged.

The market for vintage Hamilton wristwatches has surprised me – not just from a seller’s point of view, but a buyers also. I bought a nice  Ryan for $43 a week ago. I expected it to sell for more, but it stopped working during the listing period and the seller had to disclose that.

One might understand the market dynamics if they made sense. A shrinking supply normally means higher prices. In this case, approximately 350 Hamilton vintage gents wristwatches are for sale in the United States. Go figure.

This is a Circa 1937 Hamilton “Harris”.  Hamilton packaged this model with an Oyster Grey (Butler finish) and 18K gold applied hands and numerals.

They designed it with flexible lugs to move with ones wrist when driving or engaging in other activities.

This one runs well and keeps time within a minute daily. The movement caliber is 987A.

Hamilton chose to offer popular priced watches in 1936. They downgraded the case from a Wadsworth and 14K gold filled to a generic case and 10K gold filled.

The Harris came with the best American watch movement of the day. In World War II, the US military chose the 987A for the watches it provided officers and enlisted men.
