1940’s Hamilton “Forbes”

17 Jewel Hamilton “Forbes” wristwatch. It’s a very popular gold filled rectangular watch Circa 1948. It is most noted for its bold design and durability.

This timepiece came with raised gold applied applied 18K hour markers and hands and a second hand in the six o’clock position. Hamilton produced many of its dials from this era with an oyster-silver color known as a Butler finish. The “Forbes” was a manual-wind watch with a 747 movement with demasked bridges and plates. The 747 was one of Hamilton’s last American made movements produced from 1948-1952. Hamilton felt that everything they learned through the years, including their experience providing watches to the military in World War II went into the 747.
