Models by Date:1933-34 Andrews, Byrd, Captain Rice, Ericsson more

The 1933 series introduced the Andrews, Byrd, Captain Rice, Ericsson, Flintridge, Glenn Curtiss, Gladstone, Greenwich, Mount Vernon, Oakmont, Perry,  Putnam, Stanley, Webster, Whitney, Wilkinson, Grant, Langley, Lee and Livingstone.

Andrews

Hamilton produced the Andrews from 1931 to 1934 in 14K White Gold. Collectors estimate production at 1100 units. Hamilton included the Andrews in its Explorer  cased in solid 14K gold. This model came with the Hamilton 401 movement.  Specialists consider any of the explorer series rare since Hamilton only manufactured  7,500 – 401 movements. Illinois manufactured the original 401 movements from it 207 series. Hamilton made the 207 with 19-jewels instead of the original 15 jewels.

The case is handmade either by Perrin Watch Co.or L&W (Lutringer & Wittmer).
It’s also as part of the explorer series mentioned above.

Captain Rice

It came with a 979 Series – 19 Jewel Movement. Originally, Hamilton named this watch Floyd Bennett. They subsequently renamed it the Captain Rice. Hamilton released this watch at the same time it released the Glenn Curtiss. Perrin Watch Case Company also fashioned this handmade case.

Flintridge

Very little information exists on the Flintridge other than it’s rare. Production totaled 1,050 units. Hamilton made them in white and yellow 14K gold.  They came with 19 jewel 979-F and 17 jewel 987 movements. One in mint condition should sell for over $5,000. An average condition Flintridge will bring $3,000.

Ericsson

Hamilton produced approximately 150 of these watches with the 401 movement in 14K yellow gold. It’s part of the Explorer series. Hamilton named this one in honor of Leif Ericsson – thus the Swedish spelling of the name.  The Ericsson measures 41mm  26mm.

Grant and Lee

Hamilton offered their first strap watches in 10K gold filled in 1934. In this series they offered new dials. The company considered these high grade watches at former minimum prices.

Putnam

Catalog: “With a flair for the modern. 14K filled gold, white or natural yellow. With raised gold figure dial shown, $55.00 With luminous dial, $52.50.”

Came with a 987 17-jewel or a 979 19-jewel

Hamilton produced this model with a stepped case. Colletors consider it an art-deco design, but that’s debatable. The stepped case lends itself to brassing and wear.

Hamilton introduced the Putnam 1932 in a Wadsworth 14K gold filled case.

Webster

Hamilton’s latest addition to Grade 987. In 14K filled gold, white or natural yellow. Consumer price, $55.00. Also available with raised gold figure dial $8.00 additional

Hamilton introduced the Webster in 1931. They produced approximately 25,000 units in 14K yellow and white gold filled.

It looks like a cousin to the Glenn Curtiss and the dials are inter-changeable.
