Hamilton Wristwatches by Date 1928

Hamilton introduced three wristwatches in 1928: Piping Rock, Hastings, and Meadowbrook. With the release of the Piping Rock, the company shifted away from naming their wristwatches after geometric shapes. Many observers believe that the wristwatch design group (of the newly acquired Illinois Watch Company) influences all wristwatch design.

Hastings
Meadow Brook

Hamilton manufactured approximately 26,000 Hastings, 2000 Meadowbrook and 4000 Piping Rocks.

The company offered 1928 models with either a 17 or 19 jewel movement.

The Meadowbrook came in gold and platinum with only 17 of the latter versions sold. At $400, the platinum version boosted Hamilton’s reputation as America’s premiere wristwatch company. Hamilton advertised the Meadowbrook extensively. While the Meadowbrook held the position of prestige in the product line,  some say the Piping Rock was the company’s most popular watch of all time. Others would say that the Boulton holds that position, but I would say it’s a toss-up.

Hamilton reintroduced the Piping Rock after World War II with a 17-jewel 747 Hamilton movement. You can tell the difference between the two models by looking at the second hand. The 1948 model did not have numerals in the sub second dial.
