Model A |
A certain mystery surrounds the Hamilton “Model A” wristwatch. Not that it came in solid 14K yellow gold, or that it was possibly a prototype. Hamilton was only making military watches in 1943.
This watch was listed among special models in Hamilton production records, but never in a dealer’s catalog. The only consumer watches with the name Hamilton on them were made by independent jewelers and called Top Hats. They had 980 movements, probably from someone’s pre-war surplus. As you can see below several third parties made cases for them.
The Model A was to sport the name “Bentley”. The Bentley was designed with tubular lugs instead of conventional lugs in the Model A. It has a 982M consistent with solid gold Hamilton watches. It used the same dial as the “Bentley” model ” #D-51″.
According to production records only 223 examples were produced.
