Hamilton Eaton 1949 14K Gold Filled Case

The Eaton is a moderately available vintage watch in the same general category as the Boulton. The Case still differs as the Eaton is a rectangular shape and has classical designed lugs. It first shows up in the 1949 Hamilton Catalog, so it’s an early post-World War II model. It sold for $60 new, which in March 2012 adjusted for inflation dollars is $561.84.  (See H Brothers Inflation Calculator).

It has a 14K gold filled case, a Butler finished dial, separate 18K gold applied numerals and hands. Also notice the design of the second hand in the 6 o’clock position. The entire case is covered with gold, in other words, it doesn’t have a stainless steal back. It has a 982 movement common with 14K gold filled cases as Hamilton went to the 982M or medallion movement for its solid gold models.

Occasionally, you can find this watch on eBay for a steal, so look out, I will buy it before you have a chance. This one is mine and is in mint condition.

A fair price for a completely serviced Eaton should bring $450. I expect to see them go for around $100 on eBay unserviced and in fair to good condition.
