Hamilton released the “Contour” on July 15, 1938. They advertised it as a driver’s watch, because the crown sat on top and as you can tell, it had hinged lugs.
Hamilton told jewelers “we’ve had dozens of side-of-the-wrist models under consideration during the past year, but none filled all the natural requirements of such a watch. The right answer is a sturdy watch which fits on the side of any wrist, but is not limited to this position only. It should also fit the top (or bottom), whichever the owner desires.” Hamilton produced the “Contour” for one year 1938. Collectors consider it highly desirable due to the limited production and unusual design. Hamilton designed the watch with the crown at 12 o’clock.
Recently, Hamilton released a version made of stainless steel with a Quartz movement.
