Getting Back in Time

It’s 2011 and I finish my day trading  March 31st. On May 16th, I’ll start my mentoring program in Paris, Texas. I’m not the mentor.

I used to have the movements for my Hamilton watches COA’ed by three different watchmakers. They all proved unreliable, so I decided to do it myself. I say it’s impossible to learn watchmaking from books and films. I could make minor repairs, but each time I tore down a movement and put it back together, it was nearly impossible to get everything working correctly.

Within six to eight weeks, I’ll have that skill down. Why do I want to take do this? I’ll  make tools and parts and have advanced skills like truing a balance spring. Parts for antique Hamilton’s are scarce. I want to be able to make whatever part I need without killing another movement – e.g. a parts watch. I also want to learn the equipment people use for making movements run perfectly.

You’ll be hearing from me soon.

Tom
