17 Jewel Hamilton “Dewitt” wristwatch. The design of the Dewitt came about during post war America’s mid-century Art Deco revival period.
The Dewitt is one of Hamilton’s last rectangular watches with raised Arabic numerals and silver-oyster dials and 18K gold applied hands. It’s a popular rectangular watch with a curved bezel, swept back lugs and large, almost square face.
The “Dewitt” is a popular Hamilton watch that used the 747 movement with demasked bridges and plates. Hamilton produced the 747 between 1948 and 1952. It was one of the last of Hamilton’s American made movements. The company felt that it put everything it had learned producing watches for the US and UK military during World War II coupled with its 982 Medallion series.
